Moving Is Not a DIY Project

Posted on December 13, 2011

There are lots of chores people hate to do, but usually it is best to just suck it up and do them anyway. Doing big projects yourself can be satisfying and rewarding, plus you can learn new skills. But there are also some projects you just should not do yourself. In my opinion moving is one of those chores, especially here in Chicago. It is better to hire some Chicago Movers and remove yourself from the equation.

Chicago Movers come with a lot of benefits. The biggest of course is sparing you the hard work. Sure, you will still need to do some packing but once that is all done you just step out of the way. When I was 19 it was a show of manliness that I was able to move a dresser down the stairs backwards. Now it just feels foolish. I keep myself in good shape but the truth is professional movers do this many times per week. They know how to do it quickly, easily and with as little strain as possible. You and I don’t.

Then there is the cost in terms of your actual belongings. Throwing out your back is not the only problem with hauling things down stairs, around corners or through doorways. You are going to chip and scratch your furniture for sure. You might also scratch the walls of the place you are leaving. I’m not sure which is worse, scratched furniture you have to live with or having your landlord take money out of your security deposit.

These are the reasons I say leave moving to the professionals.
